Proposals must be submitted through our designated email.

What is the deadline for applications to be submitted? |
Proposals must be submitted to SAIT through the designated email by Saturday, 15 May 2010 by 9:00 A.M. Korea Standard Time (UTC+9).

Can I submit a multi-year proposal?
|
Yes. For multi-year proposals, applicants should provide the detail of multi-year research scope and plans in your proposal PART 2. Please note, however, that awards will be made for one year. To receive award in the following year, applicant should submit a new proposal and achievements of past year in the next year¡¯s SAIT GRO, which will be announced usually in around April or May and get selected for award. Submit notification will be directly delivered through your GRO technical contact individually.

The SAIT GRO Program Proposal Guide document states that awards are for one year only. In some countries, universities recruit graduate students based on a multi-year program and require guaranteed funding up-front for the entire program. Can researchers at universities with this situation still apply?

No. The SAIT GRO program does not guaranteed research funding up-front for multi-year. But you still can apply the SAIT GRO Program even if you know that the SAIT GRO Program does not guarantee research funding up-front for multi year.

Can I submit a proposal with a budget larger than $100,000 USD?
|
SAIT GRO Program award will provide cash support for one year in the range of US$50,000 to US$100,000, including any overhead.

How do I identify a joint proposal?
|
If you are submitting a joint proposal with one or more Principal Investigator (¡°PI¡±)s at another university, please note that in your proposal. A joint proposal should list its budget request in detail by separately for each university.

I have been working with a colleague at another university. Can we submit a joint proposal to SAIT?
|
Yes. Applicants from 2 (or more) separate universities may submit a joint proposal for consideration to this program. But only one representative university should submit a proposal with the all relevant information regarding joint universities and detailed budget request for each institution separately. Please note that the Research Agreement (¡°RA¡±) Acceptance Letter should be signed by all universities in the joint proposal individually.

If my co-investigator is at another university, but is not requesting funds from SAIT, do they still need to sign RA Acceptance Letter?
|
Yes. Any proposal that involves collaborators from more than one university is considered a ¡°joint proposal¡±. SAIT requires that each investigator should submit a signed RA Acceptance Letter from his/her university along with your joint proposal. If your co-investigator does not plan on requesting Samsung Electronics Co., LTD. funds, you should indicate this in the budget section of your joint proposal.

I am a researcher that is not associated with a university. Can I submit a proposal to SAIT through this process?
|
The SAIT Global Research Outreach Program is only designed to fund research projects with researchers at universities.
|
Can I include support for a post-doctoral position in my proposal budget?
|
No. Since a key objective of the SAIT Global Research Outreach Program is to help SAIT build stronger relationships with professors and their graduate students, funding requests for post-doctoral positions will not be supported. Acceptable personnel costs may include professor or faculty researcher salaries, as well as stipends related to graduate or undergraduate student participation in the project. Post-doctoral researchers are encouraged to collaborate on the project, but would be required to secure complementary funding for their salary, provided by the university or a third-party (such as a government funding agency).

I am planning to submit a proposal with a co-investigator as well as a graduate student researcher. How do I submit CVs for all 3 members of the team?
|
Please consolidate brief (1-2 page) CVs for each person into a Part 5 of your proposal.

Can more than one researcher from my university submit a proposal?
|
Yes. Multiple proposals may be submitted from any university. However, each proposal must be accompanied by a separate signed copy of the ¡ºResearch Agreement (RA) Acceptance Letter¡» in order to be eligible.

If I applied to the last year¡¯s Global Research Outreach Program but did not receive an award, am I still eligible to apply in this year?
|
Yes. We encourage you to review this year¡¯s subjects carefully. If your previous proposal is relevant to one of this year subjects, you may resubmit it. You may also submit an entirely new proposal.

If my university has previously received an Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. (¡°SEC¡±)¡¯s other grant, am I still eligible to apply?
|
Yes. Any forms of other grant from SEC do not affect your university¡¯s eligibility to apply to this program.

If my university previously accepted the last year Research Agreement, do I still need to submit an Research Agreement (RA) Acceptance Letter?
|
Yes. All applications to the 2010 Global Research Outreach Program must be accompanied by a signed, dated¡ºRA Acceptance Letter¡»in order for the proposal to be considered. ¡ºRA Acceptance Letter¡»serves to indicate your university's agreement to accept the 2010 ¡ºResearch Agreement¡», should your proposal be selected for an award.

I am a university researcher who is also an official of my university. Can I sign the RA Acceptance Letter for my proposal myself? |
No. In order to ensure that the applicant¡¯s university has reviewed the 2010 SAIT GRO Program Research Agreement prior to proposal submission, SAIT requires that a university authority other than the applicant sign the RA Acceptance Letter.

What happens if I don¡¯t email the scanned file of a signed RA Acceptance Letter?
|
In order for a proposal to be considered, all of the required documents must be sent prior to the submission deadline on Saturday, 15 May 2010 by 9:00 A.M. Korea Standard Time (UTC+9). Proposals with incomplete documentation will not be reviewed.

What happens if I need to make a change to my proposal after submission?
|
If you need to revise your proposal after submitting it, you can make changes and email again prior to the submission deadline. You will not be able to make any changes after the submission deadline has passed.

I am a university professor seeking Samsung Electronics Co., LTD. equipment or a cash donation. Can I apply through this program?
|
The SAIT Global Research Outreach Program is designed to fund breakthrough research projects with universities, and as such does not fund equipment or cash donations, nor can it support student projects, event sponsorships, or teaching activities.

Can I send a file in another format besides MS word?
|
No. All applications must be in MS word format. And the scanned file of a signed RA acceptance Letter must be in PDF format.
