Summary
Following the convergence of IT technologies, development of ultra large flat panel display technology for the presentation of multimedia content in ultra high resolution, as well as innovative devices is on it's way to prepare for future market shifts. With that in mind, our research is carried out in the area of LCD Back Light Unit elements and materials as well as new technology for low temperature processing that would replace the high temperature deposition process and thus reduce the production cost of large displays. In addition, to lead the way in UD (Ultra High Definition) displays that will succeed their Full HD counterparts, our effort is focused on display drive innovation technology using new TFT concepts.
Core Technologies
Patterning Process
This is a technology which enables normal temperature/normal pressure display printing processes. Printing technology for the printing of fine patterns, including inkjet printing and nano-imprinting, over large areas at low costs is being developed, as research continues into the core device of the inkjet process and inkjet head.
Vacuum Free Electrode Material
This technology is introduced via the innovative non-sputtering materials and process of the display TFT electrode production process. For the low cost mass production of displays, development of materials and processes for low resistance metal electrode formation at normal temperature and normal pressure in the Roll-to-Roll process is on the way.
Low Cost Substrate
The substrate heavily influences the size, thickness, and weight of the display. To realize low cost production of large flat panel displays, glass as well as plastic substrates are studied. Barrier layer materials are researched in parallel for the special protection of the device efficiency.
High Efficiency Nano Display Material
This technology involves the use of nano materials, high in quantum efficiency, as display materials for large displays. Our research is extended into the technology to directly use the light radiated from nano materials or the nano materials in combination with existing display materials to revolutionize display properties such as efficiency, durability, brightness, drive voltage, color integrity, etc. Also, research is ongoing for the technologies related to nano material synthesis, element structure design, and the related production processes.
Display Optical System
This technology deals with the innovation of optical components/materials of displays together with modules and systems. Research is carried out for optical design technology and new optics-based production technology to innovate the core components and materials of displays, thus improving brightness, efficiency of viewing angle, display module display quality, slimness, etc. All such efforts are aimed at developing innovative technologies to optimize display optical systems.
New TFT for High Resolution
Research is conducted in new TFT materials for backplane used to create high resolution, low cost displays. Used also in production processes and architecture for array TFTs, the aim is to create a new concept TFT that has higher efficiency than the traditional amorphous silicone TFTs, and at the same time enables low cost production.
