Privacy Policy (for Global Research Outreach)

- Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. (hereinafter "Samsung Electronics") values customers’ personal information. To comply with relevant laws and regulations including the Personal Information Protection Act, we have developed and follow our Privacy Policy.
- The Privacy Policy (for GRO) is subject to change if laws, government policies, or Samsung Electronics’ policies change.
- When we change the Privacy Policy (for GRO), a notice will be posted on SAIT’s GRO website or e-mailed.
- Customers are encouraged to visit GRO website and check frequently.

1. General

1.1 Personal information is data that can be used to uniquely identify a single person. Data that does not permit direct association with any specific individual but can be used in combination with other information to identify a person will be treated as personal information.
1.2 Customers’ privacy is important to Samsung Electronics. We comply with the provisions of the Personal Information Protection Act and the Privacy Guidelines set by the Ministry of Security and Public Administration. This Privacy Policy covers how we use the personal information provided by customers and what measures we take to protect personal information.
1.3 Our Privacy Policy is on the first page of our website so that customers can easily see it any time.
1.4 To continually improve the Privacy Policy, Samsung Electronics has privacy policy change procedures. When we revise this Privacy Policy, we will update the version number so that customers can easily identify changes.

2. What personal information we collect and how we collect it

To identify customers, receive and review proposals, and award grants for selected projects, Samsung Electronics collects personal information in the following manner.

3. Purposes of collection and use of personal information

3.1 Samsung Electronics collects personal information for the following purposes and does not collect more information than is required to provide satisfactory services.

3.2 We do not collect any sensitive personal information that may infringe on basic rights of customers (such as race, ethnicity, ideology, faith, birthplace, political disposition, criminal records, health conditions, and sex life).

4. Use, disclosure and sharing of personal information

4.1 Except where you authorize otherwise or where it is necessary by law for Samsung Electronics to disclose your personal information, Samsung Electronics will not use or disclose to third parties your personal information for purposes other than those specified in Section 3 "Purposes of Collection and Use of Personal Information". In the following circumstances, we may use or disclose personal information we collect.
- In the event of succession and transfer of all of our rights and obligations including a sale, merger, or acquisition, we will give you prior notice detailing the reasons and procedures and you have the right to withdraw your consent to the terms of the Privacy Policy.
- If we disclose to or share with a third party your personal information, we will give you prior notice for consent by e-mail or in writing of the relevant third party, what purposes the third party will use it for, what information will be disclosed or shared, your right to refuse to consent, and disadvantages you may encounter in the absence of that consent if any.

4.2 We may disclose your personal information without your consent pursuant to the provisions of relevant law
- to fulfill agreements on provision of services
- if disclosure is necessary by law or requested via due process by law enforcement authorities or
if data is disclosed for statistics, scientific researches, or market surveys in a form that does not permit direct association with any specific individual.

5. Outsourcing the processing of collected personal information

5.1 To provide services, Samsung Electronics outsources the processing of personal information to an outside organization.

5.2 To make sure personal information is secure, the agreement between Samsung Electronics and the outsoursee requires the outsoursee to strictly follow the directions related to protection of personal information and keep personal information confidential; prohibits the outsoursee from disclosing it to third parties; and specifies responsibilities in the event of security incidents, the duration of outsourcing, and return or destruction of personal information after processing. We keep physical or electronic copies of the agreement.

5.3 When our outsoursee or outsourced work is changed, we will notify customers of the change by one or more of postal mail, e-mail, phone, SMS, and similar means.

6. Period of Retention and Use of Personal information and Destruction

6.1 Personal information will be destroyed without delay when it is proven to become unnecessary to the extent that it is no longer required to be retained.

6.2 If we are required to retain personal information for a certain period by our internal policies or the provisions of relevant laws including the Commercial Code for purposes including identification of rights and obligations, we will retain it for a certain period.

6.3 Retention and Destruction
- Retention
After the purpose of collection and use is achieved, customers’ personal information is moved to a separate database and retained for a certain period in accordance with our internal policies and relevant laws (See the Period of Retention and Use.). The personal information will not be used for purposes other than retention except where required by law.
- Destruction
Personal information on paper will be shredded or incinerated. Personal information in electronic files will be erased using techniques for permanent destruction.

7. Rights and obligations of users and their legal representatives and how to exercise the rights

7.1 Customers can access their personal information held by Samsung Electronics and request correction or deletion, or withdraw consents. For access, correction, deletion requests or withdrawal of consents, contact us at 1588-3366 or contact Chief Privacy Officer in writing, or by phone or e-mail.

7.2 If you request that we correct inaccurate data, the data will not be used or provided until it is corrected. If we have already provided a third party with incorrect personal information, we will notify the relevant third party of it promptly so that the information can be corrected.

7.3 Personal information that you request we delete will be handled in accordance with the provisions of ‘Period of Retention and Use of Personal Information collected by Samsung Electronics’ and relevant laws and not be used for other purposes.

7.4 Please keep your personal information accurate and up to date to prevent unexpected incidents. You are responsible for incidents caused by inaccurate information you provide. Identity theft and provision of false information may disqualify you from membership.

7.5 Your right to privacy is accompanied by responsibilities to protect yourself and not to jeopardize the privacy of others. Please take precautions to prevent identity theft and not to damage other people’s personal information including postings. Anyone who damages personal information and dignity of others may be punished according to relevant law.

9. Measures to Protect Personal Information

Samsung Electronics takes the following precautions – including technical, administrative, and physical measures – to safeguard your personal information against loss, theft, disclosure, alteration, and destruction.

9.1 Samsung Electronics stores important personal information in an encrypted format.

9.2 Measures against Hacking
- We do our best to prevent customers’ personal information from being leaked or damaged by hacking and computer viruses.
- We frequently back up data to protect against damage to personal information, use the latest vaccine program to prevent customers’ personal information from being leaked or damaged, and use encrypted communications for secure transmission of personal information over the network.
- We use a firewall to block unauthorized access, and try to be equipped with all technological devices available for security.

9.3 Access to Personal Information by Employees
- Only those in charge of personal information are allowed access to personal information. They are given unique passwords, which are regularly changed, and educated to make sure personal information is secure.
- They are responsible for security incidents while working for the company and after resignation, and their successors take over work under tight security.
- Computer rooms and archive rooms are specially protected zones to which access is restricted to authorized personnel.

9.4 Task Force to Protect Personal Information
- The task force dedicated to protection of personal information checks compliance and the measures taken to protect personal information and remedies problems immediately. Samsung Electronics is not responsible for leakage of personal information caused by customers’ carelessness or the Internet.

10. Advertising Mails

Samsung Electronics takes the following precautions – including technical, administrative, and physical measures – to safeguard your personal information against loss, theft, disclosure, alteration, and destruction.

10.1 If you do not want to receive ads, you can opt out of receiving communications about advertising.

10.2 When Samsung Electronics sends advertising information including product information via e-mail for online marketing, the titles and bodies of such e-mails will be as follows.
- Title: The title may not include ‘Ads’ and shows the subject of the e-mail.
Body: The sender’s name, email address, phone number, and mailing address will be specified along with how to easily reject e-mails.

11. Notice of Change in Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy has become effective on March 1st 2013. When changes in laws, government policies, Samsung Electronics’ policies, or security technologies cause this Policy to be revised, a notice detailing the reasons and changes will be posted on our website at least seven (7) days prior to revision. If changes are made to important sections such as disclosure of personal information to third parties, purposes of collection and use, and retention period, we will get your consent.
