- Abstract
Cordierite-based ceramic catalyst filter (CCF) has attracted considerable attention due to its ability to remove particulate matter (PM) and volatile organic compounds (VOCs) that cause fatal human diseases.Ultraviolet light-emitting diodes (UV LEDs) are employed to activate the photocatalyst, however,?a?significant portion of UV photons are absorbed near the entrance of the high aspect ratio channels, resulting in limited activation of the photocatalyst. This necessitates a novel approach to convey UV photons intothese channels?effectively, optimizing photocatalytic reaction. In this study, we developed a high-performance CCF with an array of textured fused silica-based waveguides aligned with the array of UV LEDs, inside the filter channels to enhance the VOCs removal efficiency. Both simulated and experimental results showed that the array of partly textured fused silica-based waveguides extracted UV light at the textured regions and the UV light reached far inside the channel. Consequently, the CCF exhibited 70 % enhancement of HCHO removal efficiency even under lower electrical power to UV LEDs.
