The Forum takes place at the Seoul Hyatt Hotel (Namsan Hall) between the 29th and 30th of May with 'Virus and Cancer' being the theme for the medicine section and 'Nano' as the engineering section’s theme.
The Ho-Am Foundation, the Samsung Medical Center (SMC), and the Samsung Advanced Institute of Technology (SAIT) are hosting the fist 'Ho-Am Forum' at the Seoul Hyatt Hotel (Namsan Hall) for two days, May 29th and 30th.
The Forum provides an opportunity to present some of the latest research results and to enable, as well, the exchange of ideas among a global scientific network engaging in high-level discussions with local and foreign scholars, including winners of the prestigious Ho-Am Prize and Nobel laureates alike.
The two-day program will be divided into a medicine and engineering section. Samsung Medical Center, a premier academic medical center of international standing will be leading the medicine section while the Samsung Advanced Institute of Technology, Samsung’s central corporate research lab, where future technologies are actively being studied, will be taking charge of the Forum’s engineering section.
The Ho-Am Foundation, through its global network, has invited the Forum’s keynote speakers, which include among its distinguished ranks, Ho-Am Prize winners and Nobel laureates.
On the Forum’s first day, seven local and foreign scholars will offer their expert perspectives on the emerging trends in their respective fields as well as sharing research results related to the theme of 'Virus and Cancer'. The speakers include Dr. Harald zur Hausen (recipient of the Nobel Prize for Medicine in 2008 for his groundbreaking work in uterine cervical cancer) and Dr. Jae-Woong Jeong (winner of the 2012 Medicine Ho-Am Prize for pioneering work in tumor viruses).
The second day, constituting the engineering section of the Forum, will continue with six local and foreign specialists describing some of the latest results in nanotechnology. This will include Dr. Dan Schechtman (winner of the Nobel Prize in Chemistry for 2011 for his discovery of quasicrystals) and Dr. Taeghwan Hyeon (winner of the 2012 Engineering Ho-Am Prize), an internationally recognized expert representing nanotechnology in Korea.
The Ho-Am Forum, where globally renowned researchers gather to discuss the latest results and newest ideas, represents a unique and continuing opportunity for domestic and foreign scholars to engage in academic interchange at the highest level, with each year exploring different themes of critical importance to science and society.
